The Dunn Police Athletic & Activities League, Inc. is a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) organization under the Dunn Police Department to establish mutual trust between Law Enforcement, Citizens and the Youth. Dunn PAL, Inc. offers an extensive after-school program with assistance from NCDPI 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant and engages youth ages 4-18 in positive programs in hopes they will become productive citizens in the community.

PAL provides a Safe Haven Center and provide an alternative means of enjoyment and activities other than hanging out on the streets, becoming involved in gangs, becoming involved in drugs & alcohol and dropping out of school. PAL promotes good clean fun, teamwork, responsibility, self respect and problem solving.PAL is for youth which are in Public School, Private School or CCCC Adult High School Diploma Program and are ages 4-18 and grades K-12th. PAL offers Educational, Athletic and Non-Athletic activities for boys and girls and is not limited to sex, race or ethnic background. Any youth in the following school districts can participate: Harnett, Sampson – Plainview/Midway area and Johnston – Benson/South Johnston High area. The PAL participation criteria must be followed by all prospective PAL members. Parents are encouraged to participate as much as possible to make their childs experience a positive one.

Dunn PAL was first implemented in the summer of 1995 and has an active Advisory Board that meets the First Monday of Every Month at 6:00 P.M. Most Dunn PAL Activities are funded through public and private donations. Some programs are funded partially from local and federal grants. Most programs are operated by volunteers, and we always need volunteers to keep our programs in operation. Dunn PAL is a chartered member since 1996 with the National Association of Police Athletic Leagues (NAPAL) and you can visit their web site at www.nationalpal.org.

  • The Dunn Police Athletic League was established in the Spring of 1995 with Grant money from the NC Governor’s Crime Commission. Dunn PAL started with 10 youth in softball at Tyler Park and by the end of softball grew to 45 youth.
  • In the Fall of 1995 Dunn PAL started Flag Football and the program grew to over 65 youth.
  • When Dunn PAL Started Basketball in the Winter of 1995 the program grew to over 85 youth participating.
  • The Dunn Police Athletic/Activities League Youth Center was established in 1998 for all youth in the Harnett County area as a safe place for youth to go and hang out and become involved in various programs and have fun. The Center is located on approximately 11 acres of property that is leased to the City of Dunn and operated by the Dunn Police Department that includes a swimming pool, park (with outside basketball goals, tennis court, field and picnic area), Education Building (with computer lab and classrooms), playgrounds and PAL Center that includes: Game Room, Karate Room, Boxing Facilities, Basketball Gym and Mass Communication Room (includes Internet Radio and Video Production). The PAL Center is open to all youth in the area and membership is free. All a youth has to do is fill out an Online PAL Member Participation Application and get a membership card to gain access to the facilities. The Center hours after-school are 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday – Friday closing at 6:00 PM on Wednesday’s. The Center will be opening soon on Saturday’s. The Center also has an Board of Directors and Youth Advisory Council (made up of all youth) that help guide the Center in its activities. The PAL Center is continuously seeking volunteers to help operate the Center and its activities.
